As the designer for several recent projects at Gravity Sketch, I worked closely with developers to deliver three key features on a tight deadline. Each project adhered to the company's core design principles of physicality, immediacy, and simplicity. My goal was to take complex and technical concepts and design accessible solutions for non-technical users.
The first project was the Mixed Reality mode (passthrough), which enhances user experience by allowing them to see the real world through the headset while creating 3D models. This feature required extensive collaboration with the developers to ensure smooth and accurate integration with the hardware.
The second project was the 3D Navigation Lock, which allows users to move around the scene while maintaining orientation in 3D space.
The 3D NavLock is a critical feature for 3D modeling and mixed reality apps. It allows users to move around a 3D scene while keeping the model anchored in place, reducing disorientation and frustration. This feature is especially important in mixed reality, where users move in physical space while interacting with virtual objects. It improves the overall user experience and makes it easier to focus on specific aspects of the model.
The third project focused on the Stylus Experience for the Quest Pro, which was designed to provide users with more intuitive and accurate control over the 3D modelling process. This feature required an exploration of different ways that users might hold the controllers to find the most ergonomic approach. Through user testing and careful iteration, we refined the design to ensure that users could work for extended periods of time without experiencing discomfort or fatigue. The final solution is a testament to our commitment to physicality, immediacy, and simplicity, and provides users with a comfortable and intuitive way to interact with the 3D modelling software.
In summary, my recent projects at Gravity Sketch involved designing and delivering three key features that improve user experience in the 3D modelling space. I collaborated closely with developers to ensure successful integration and followed the company's core design principles to create accessible solutions for non-technical users. These projects showcase my ability to design for complex technical concepts and deliver successful outcomes on tight deadlines.
